Ron tan zi kaiFounder of inclusive arts movementWe all have our imperfections; no one is perfect, right? Don't be afraid to communicate with us or make new friends. Don't even hesitate to take the first step.
I am Ron Tan Zi Kai, the founder of the Inclusive Arts Movement (I.AM), an organization dedicated to the welfare of people with disabilities. We believe in the power of inclusivity and the idea that different individuals can always come together. We may be unique in our own ways, but we embrace each other. Through music and artistic performances, we empower individuals with disabilities to earn a stable income and create an inclusive workspace where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive. |
my journeyLet's talk about my journey in music. Despite facing more challenges than I could have imagined due to my hearing impairment, I found solace and self-expression through music. Music released me from the negative emotions that surrounded me, including the lack of understanding and misunderstanding from those around me. It was my escape. I would put on my headphones, wait for beautiful melodies to play, and imagine myself standing on a stage, performing. At the age of 18, I joined the school's piano club, and I would frequent a music store to practice playing the piano. Slowly but surely, I began to express myself through melodies. The idea behind creating I.AM stemmed from a desire to bring together individuals with diverse abilities. In I.AM, we have individuals who use wheelchairs, individuals with autism, and more, all working and performing together. Are we a band? Or are we a band made up of individuals with disabilities?
